Honda HR-V misses out on top safety rating
Child occupant protection and safety assists let the new compact SUV down as LDV MIFA people-mover shinesThe 2022 Honda HR-V has just been handed a four-star safety rating by the safety boffins at ANCAP, who noted key weaknesses in the new small SUV’s child occupant protection and safety assist fields.
Specifically, the new HR-V scored 82 and 77 per cent for its adult and child occupant protection respectively, 72 per cent for its vulnerable road user protection and 69 per cent for its safety assists.
According to the independent auto safety body, the new-generation Honda SUV didn’t offer acceptable (‘weak’) head protection for children in the side impact test, while the omission of rear occupant detection and driver fatigue monitoring also cost it points.
That said, ‘good’ scores were recorded for the lane-keeping and forward-facing autonomous emergency braking abilities.
This rating applies to both the internal combustion and e:HEV hybrid versions of the HR-V.
Speaking of shared ratings, petrol versions of the new LDV MIFA people-mover have just been awarded the same five-star safety rating as the battery-electric MIFA9.
The MIFA notched up a total adult occupant protection score of 93 per cent and 88 per cent for its child occupant protection. Vulnerable road user protection was rated at 73 per cent, while its safety assist score was an impressive 90 per cent.
ANCAP testers said the all-new Chinese MPV recorded maximum points for protection of the driver and small female rear passenger in the full-width frontal test, with full points also recorded for protection offered to the front seat passenger in the frontal offset test and the driver in the side impact test.
“The child occupant protection score for the MIFA was high, however consumers are advised that child restraints for younger children should not be fitted to the third-row centre or right-hand-side seating positions as there are no top-tether anchorages fitted to these seating positions,” ANCAP said in a statement.
Across the ditch New Zealand, the Kiwi-spec Ford Mustang Mach-E was also awarded five stars, boding well for the battery-electric SUV’s pending Australian release.
