Facelifted 2024 Honda HR-V revealed
Honda’s HR-V small SUV emerges overseas with sharper looks, extra safety and better hybrid driveAn upgraded 2024 Honda HR-V has surfaced in Japan, where the small SUV is expected to launch in the coming months ahead of a likely Australian debut later this year.
Honda Australia has confirmed there is an update planned for the local HR-V line-up this year but stopped short of confirming that the details emerging overseas will carry over to our market.
Headlining the update in Japan is a new wider grille, revised front bumper and altered tail-light graphics, while changes within the cabin extend to a redesigned junction between the centre console and dashboard to create room for a new dual-level storage tray.
The lower level doubles as a wireless charging pad.
On the hybrid version, HR-V’s petrol-electric powertrain now has “updated energy management control” that’s designed to make the car quieter and more responsive around town.
No power or efficiency gains have been quoted.
Rounding out the enhancements are three new features for the Honda Sensing safety suite: traffic jam assist, sudden acceleration suppression and adaptive driving beam.
Honda Connect compatibility with the power tailgate will also be offered on certain grades.
The latest HR-V has turned around its lacklustre sales in recent months, having lost ground in 2023 with just over 2000 sales across the calendar year.
It continues to offer just two variants in our market – the petrol Vi X and hybrid e:HEV L – both of which are four-seaters and have a premium position at $36,700 and $47,000 drive-away respectively.
A four-star ANCAP safety rating (out of five) also hasn’t helped its cause, but the latest additions should improve the outlook.
