Honda repositions Civic Hatch

Lower prices, more features and a new variant add to the consumer appeal of Honda's small hatch
A new model year update for Honda's Civic hatch ushers in more kit at a more affordable level. The importer has pulled $2000 out of the retail price at entry level for the Civic Hatch VTi-S, despite adding features from the former flagship of the range, the VTi-L.
All Civic hatch variants – not just the VTi-L – now come as standard with Bluetooth/music streaming, cruise control with speed limiting facility, a reversing camera, six-speaker audio and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) system. As we reported for the launch of the new generation hatch, the spec list for the basic variant was not achieving the required standard against market rivals and Honda's new model year update addresses those features missing from the list, and more.
But the changes to the range don't end there. The Civic Hatch VTi-L has been reduced in price by thousands, thanks to the deletion of leather trim in favour of cloth. Yet the specification change for the Civic VTi-L is not all in the one direction. Keyless entry/start, an electrochromatic mirror, electrically-adjustable lumbar support for both front seats, privacy glass and leather-bound gear knob have all been added as standard for the 2013 model year.
A new flagship variant, the VTi-LN is the only variant of the three that offers leather upholstery. In addition, it features satellite navigation with live traffic updates, a DVD player and front-seat heating. While the VTi-S remains available with a choice of manual or auto transmission, the VTi-L and VTi-LN are only offered with five-speed automatic as the default.
“We’ve added some important new features and a new variant, making the Civic Hatch one of the best small hatches on the road,” a press release issued by Honda Australia quoted from Stephen Collins, Director and General Manager for Sales and Marketing. “Its European heritage, sporty styling and sharp pricing means you must get into a Honda dealership today and test drive it for yourself.”
Prices for the revised Civic Hatch are:
VTi-S manual $20,650,
VTi-S auto $22,950,
VTi-L auto $25,490,
VTi-LN auto $29,590
Metallic paint is a $525 option for all variants.
