Hybrid for Legend?

Honda Legend not forgotten among cost-friendly market -- and there may be an eco-savvy version in the works

Honda's large car offering, Legend isn't doing too well in sales locally but the brand wants to strengthen the sedan's standings with high-end treatment and technology for the next model.

"We will keep providing luxury cars like Legend," Honda Australia MD and CEO, Satoshi Matsuzawa told the Carsales Network.

Honda has lately focussed on the affordable car market but Matsuzawa says the company will remain in the luxury segment to learn from its challenges.

"The [luxury car] customer expects the most advanced technology. So to meet those customers' expectations we are going to develop the best technologies, and add as many as possible, into the Legend."

The Legend is the brand's way of demonstrating it is cutting-edge, says Matsuzawa. The features can then be "taken down" as luxury options to other models.

"It's the starting of a cascade. It's only small in [sales] numbers but it's very important to us."

Matsuzawa San couldn't tell us which new technologies would arrive in the upcoming Legend. "Please wait," he said. Interestingly, he did not deny the next Legend could be offered in hybrid form.

"Some clever ideas will come."
