Official: Hyundai i30 Fastback N confirmed

Korean car-maker teases hotter version of i30 Fastback -- will launch late 2018, already confirmed for Oz

Hyundai has confirmed its i30 Fastback N will launch later this year by releasing pictures of its flagship hot hatch testing at the Nurburgring in Germany.

It's thought the sleek five-door, which Hyundai has confirmed will be launched shortly after its debut "later this year" and is set to go on sale in early in early 2019, will be mechanically identical to the regular Hyundai i30 N hatch.

That means it will come powered by the same 202kW/378Nm 2.0-litre twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that, even with a slight weight penalty, should propel the i30 Fastback to 100km/h in around 6.1 seconds and a top speed of more than 250km/h.

Wrapped in the Hyundai i30 Fastback's more mature design, the flagship N car will be levied with a modest price premium of around $800 over the standard hatch -- if Hyundai Australia chooses to follow the European pricing model.

Like the i30 N, the i30 Fastback N will be given a thorough shakedown at Hyundai's European Test Centre at the Nurburgring to ensure its tyres, brakes and powertrain can cope with serious circuit work.
