The Hyundai iMax (passenger) and iLoad (commercial) van range has undergone the most significant upgrade in its 11-year-long campaign.
The ‘2019’ facelift brings a new frontal treatment, and additional convenience and infotainment features to the all-diesel range, which continues to sell against rivals like the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso and Kia Carnival in spite of the omission of rear curtain airbags.
A reduction in list price of $3300 should, however, be enough to keep most iMax customers happy, the entry-spec Active now available from $43,990 (plus on-road costs).
The eight-seat iMax Active is enhanced with an automatic transmission as standard, 16-inch steel wheels, cloth seats, a new design grille, dusk-sensing headlights, tilt and reach steering column, full-function trip computer and 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment array with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
It is topped by the iMax Elite (from $48,490 plus ORCs) which adds a beige leather interior and two-tone dashboard, 17-inch alloy wheels (with matching spare), electrochromatic rear-view mirror, front fog-lights, heated front seats and dual-pane sunroof.
For the utilitarian iLoad range (from $38,790 plus ORCs) the changes are less pronounced. The new frontal treatment of the iMax notwithstanding, the iLoad receives changes that otherwise include only the dusk-sensing headlights, tilt and reach steering column, updated instrument cluster and Kona-sourced infotainment array.
The light commercial van range continues to be offered with the choice of six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmissions, which like that of the iMax are mated solely to Hyundai’s 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. Two states of tune are available with manual variants outputting 100kW/343Nm and auto models making 125kW/441Nm.
The eight-strong iLoad line-up continue to be offered with Liftback and Twin Swing rear doors, and dual sliding doors at each side. Payload is unchanged at 1113kg (man.) and 1098kg (auto.) for iLoad Van variants, and 1111kg (man.) and 1096kg (auto.) for iLoad Crew Van models. Towing is rated at 2000kg and 1500kg for manual and automatic models respectively.
Hyundai van models are covered by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty which includes roadside assistance for up to 10 years.
The 2019 Hyundai iMax and iLoad range goes on sale nationally this month.
