Hyundai Australia has issued a stop-delivery notice for its second-generation Palisade large SUV after a child was crushed to death by the power-folding second- and third-row seats in the US, prompting large-scale recall.
The action follows an investigation into a fatal incident in Ohio, where a two-year-old child was killed by the power-folding third-row seat on March 7.
“While Hyundai does not yet have the full details and the incident is still under investigation, a young child lost her life. Hyundai extends its deepest sympathies to her family,” Hyundai USA said in a statement.

According to the US recall documentation, the seat’s obstacle detection system did not detect the child during operation, allowing the seat to continue folding.
The company confirmed the issue does not affect the previous-generation LX2 Palisade, with the local delivery pause limited to the current Palisade Calligraphy Hybrid.
Hyundai Australia told carsales approximately 2260 vehicles are affected locally, with an over-the-air (OTA) software update currently in development and expected to be available by the end of this month (March).

The update is intended to enhance the system’s response to contact with occupants or objects, introduce additional operating safeguards, and improve overall system safety.
Hyundai said customer safety is its top priority and that further details regarding final repair arrangements will be provided as they become available.
Deliveries of affected vehicles will remain on hold while the update is deployed.
