The Finer Details

Positioned between the $76,500 (plus ORCs) Palisade Elite and $89,828 (plus ORCs) Calligraphy, the XRT Pro costs $3400 more than the entry-level variant and is the only member of the Australian line-up to combine the non-hybrid 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with all-wheel drive.

Its 2.5-litre four-cylinder produces 207kW and 422Nm, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The XRT Pro has a 2200kg maximum braked towing capacity when fitted with the Hyundai Genuine towing accessory kit, along with a maximum towball downweight of 160kg.

Ground clearance rises by 25mm over the regular Palisade, from 187mm to 212mm, while the approach, departure and ramp-over angles increase to 20.5, 22.4 and 18.3 degrees respectively.

The chassis receives suspension and steering tunes developed by Hyundai engineers alongside the company’s Australian tuning team in Sydney. The localisation program assessed different dampers, springs and anti-roll bars, resulting in hardware and geometry distinct from the Elite and Calligraphy variants.

As previewed in another carsales article, the production model rides on XRT Pro-specific 18-inch alloy wheels with Continental all-terrain tyres. It also gains a factory-fitted tow bar, exposed red recovery hooks, black exterior detailing and a unique metallic grille treatment.

Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes are supported by a rear electronic limited-slip differential that can direct torque to the rear wheel with the most traction.

Inside, the XRT Pro retains three-row seating for eight occupants. Standard equipment includes black synthetic leather seat trim, heated and ventilated front seats, dual 12.3-inch displays, a 14-speaker Bose sound system, a single sunroof and a full-size alloy spare wheel.

The Road Ahead

The Hyundai Palisade XRT Pro reaches local dealerships in September as the brand’s first XRT Pro model in Australia.

The new flagship will be a direct rival for adventure-focused family SUVs such as the Toyota Prado and Ford Everest.

It will also be the first local application of Hyundai's XRT Pro sub-brand, with Tucson and Santa Fe variants expected to follow as the Korean brand continues expanding its lifestyle-focused off-road range.
