Hyundai recalls i30 for stability control fault

Over 37,000 cars in Australia may be affected by manufacturing flaw

Hyundai is recalling its i30 hatch for a stability control module casing that may have been damaged during the manufacturing process.

According to the importer, the casing may have been cracked during vehicle production, and this could allow water to enter, potentially causing short circuiting and consequent system malfunction. In that event, the vehicle may not be able to avoid a collision.

Vehicles sold in Australia between December 18, 2010 and March 29, 2012 may be affected, and Hyundai indicates that as many as 37,334 cars are subject to the recall. The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) range of vehicles affected runs from KMHD**1***U113245 to KMHD**1***U395542.

Hyundai is recommending vehicle owners return the vehicle to the nearest dealer to have the stability control module replaced, and the company will be advising owners by mail.
