Hyundai has announced the release of a value-added model for its current Santa Fe range. Named the Santa Fe Trail, the new limited edition is already on sale here, and features a reversing camera with its display integrated in the electrochromatic mirror.
A rear-seat entertainment system comprises an overhead display that will play back DVD movies, audio CDs and MP3 external sources. According to the Hyundai press release for the vehicle, the entertainment system is compatible with Sony Playstation and Nintendo Gameboy systems. Headphones and a remote control should ensure the users won't disturb front-seat occupants.
Other standard equipment items bundled together for the Santa Fe Trail include privacy glass and leather/leatherette upholstery for seats, steering wheel and gear knob. Hyundai has fitted the vehicle with front and rear skid plates, a chrome garnish for the tailgate, gloss black (piano finish) roof racks, 18-inch alloy wheels and bespoke badging. The importer will offer the Santa Fe Trail in all-wheel drive configuration only, powered by the 2.2-litre R Series diesel engine, but the limited edition model will be available in both manual ($39,590) and automatic ($41,590) versions. Colours available are Vanilla White, Phantom Black, Stone Grey, Titanium Silver and Blue Spirit.
The Santa Fe Trail marks the beginning of the run-out phase for the current Santa Fe, as Hyundai prepares for the local launch of the new model, which was simultaneously revealed two weeks ago in North America (at the New York motor show) and in Europe.
Hyundai Australia confirmed with motoring.com.au this morning that the all-new Santa Fe will be coming to Australia in short-wheelbase form only and it will be sourced from South Korea. The importer is not in a position to say whether the Aussie-spec Santa Fe will be five-seat, seven-seat or both in its short-wheelbase configuration, but a source within the company did say, definitively, that the left-hand drive only long-wheelbase model is not on the agenda.
