Hyundai tweaks Tucson
Popular mid-size SUV gains new engine and infotainment upgradeHyundai Australia has released an MY18 Tucson range bringing a new engine and upgraded infotainment system for the popular mid-size SUV.
Released just days after the launch of the replacement for the Mazda CX-5 -- the only model to outsell the Tucson in the volume-selling mid-size SUV segment last year -- the revised Tucson range brings a more powerful but equally efficient engine at base level.
Replacing the 2.0-litre MPI (multi-point injection) petrol engine in Active and Elite models is Hyundai's newer 2.0-litre GDi (gasoline direct injection) four-cylinder delivering 121kW of power and 203Nm of torque – up from 114kW/192Nm.
The GDi engine is matched with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission in Active and Active X variants (Elite models are auto-only) and consumes 7.8L/100km (manual) and 7.9L/100km (auto).
There are no changes to the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol or 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engines in the higher-spec Elite or top-shelf Highlander (pictured), with the petrol engine continuing to be matched with a dual-clutch automatic transmission and the diesel with a torque converter auto.
Likewise, there are no changes to pricing at base level, which continues at a competitive $28,590 plus on-road costs, although Elite models go up by $500.
This is in part to account for the range-wide fitment of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, which was previously only available in Active and Active X models.
