Hyundai "Type R Killer" concept unveiled

High-performance Kona and Veloster concepts on the way to SEMA in Las Vegas

Hyundai America has revealed its VelosterRaptor N and Kona Ultimate Turbo AWD concepts ahead of the 2019 SEMA show.

The striking Veloster and Kona concepts were builds by Bisimoto Engineering and Rockstar Performance Garage respectively, with the Veloster designed to be a "Type R killer".

Named the Bisimoto VelosterRaptor N concept (not to be confused with the 195kW Aussie VelosterRaptor from 2014), it gets a range of bolt-on performance upgrades, including a high-flow exhaust system, mass airflow modifications, water methanol kit, upgraded turbocharger internals and more.

These upgrades combine with a tweaked ECU to deliver a 'quantified' power output of more than 320hp (238kW).

The standard Veloster sold in Australia pumps out 150kW/265Nm

We're hoping that measurement was taken at the front wheels, and not the crankshaft, because it'll need a fair bit of zing to make the Honda Civic Type R blush.

In local terms, that power output is a boost of more than 80kW on the fastest Veloster Turbo sold in Australia and almost 40kW more than Hyundai’s i30 N hot hatch (202kW).

A more aerodynamic rear spoiler is fitted to the VelosterRaptor N along with Tarox front brakes, Fifteen52 wheels and grippier tyres. The slammed ride height comes about via Eibach Suspension.

Inside the cabin, the Veloster gets lightweight composite Momo front seats and an interactive OBD instrument cluster.

The Hyundai Kona Ultimate concept looks like it belongs in a videogame...

It's widely expected the next high-performance Hyundai N model will be the 255kW Tucson N but at SEMA a pumped-up Kona SUV be take pride of place on the Korea car-maker's stand.

Sporting 16-inch Motegi rally wheels wrapped in 30-inch Mickey Thompson race-grooved tyres, this machine is all about desert duelling.

The Kona Ultimate Turbo AWD also features King suspension upgrades, Race Chip performance tuning, a Magnaflow exhaust, K&N air filters and Baja LED lighting on the front, all designed to improve off-road performance.

Inside is a Kicker audio system, magnetic Scosche phone mounts and alligator-skinned seats from Roadwire.

Both models will be on show at next week's 2019 SEMA show in Las Vegas, alongside the crazy Veloster Grappler concept.

Hyundai Grappler concept will also be at SEMA
