iCaur readies new models beyond boxy SUVs

A flagship SUV, compact model and sleek crossover could broaden iCaur’s Australian appeal

The News

Chery’s incoming iCaur brand is preparing at least three additional models that could substantially expand its Australian range beyond the boxy, adventurous-looking V25 and V27 SUVs that are the foundation of the brand’s local launch.

It is understood that development is well progressed on a vehicle larger than the 5-metre V27, a small hatchback-esque SUV and a lower-slung, sedan-like crossover model, with all three prospective new models a possibility for Australia.

iCaur chief executive Ronna Luo separately told carsales that the Chery Group brand does not intend to be permanently defined by the boxy styling of its V23, V25 and V27 models.

Instead, iCaur executives want styling flexibility without surrendering some of the recognisable family identity the brand has established.

“I prefer not to limit ourselves to boxy,” Luo said.

The Key Details

  • Flagship SUV model to have long bonnet, upright styling
  • New compact SUV will possibly be called the NXT
  • Sleek sedan-esque crossover is in advanced development
  • All three would likely be evaluated for Australian suitability

The Finer Details

The largest of the newcomers would sit clearly above the V27 model. Likely measuring between 5.2 and 5.4 metres in length, the iCaur flagship SUV is set to retain a very formal and square body with a long bonnet and dash-to-axle ratio.

A petrol range-extender hybrid system is the most likely powertrain for the big SUV, though a fully electric version is also possible.

Unlike the two smaller models under development, the large SUV would expand iCaur’s existing boxy styling conventions, albeit possibly with more obvious luxury cues.

At the other end of the range, an affordable small SUV would introduce a more conventional and far more aerodynamic option that would sit alongside today’s compact-but-boxy V23.

NXT is understood to be a possible name for the new small SUV, but it is not a confirmed badge; nor is it known whether the model would be EV, hybrid or both.

But the third new model is the most significant for iCaur’s attempt to break away from boxy.

A lower, seriously aerodynamic crossover with styling closer to a sedan than a traditional SUV, the new model may revive ideas explored by the two-door iCaur GT concept of 2023 and the related four-door TI 01 design patented later that year.

After it was revealed in patent filings, the TI 01 dropped off the map. It may now be revived.

iCaur V25

Chinese publication Autohome reported in December 2025 that an iCAR/iCaur product roadmap showed eight future vehicle silhouettes, including a low-slung crossover and several SUVs.

The switch away from boxy is a practical step for iCaur because the squared-off styling is causing efficiency headaches for the brand.

Despite being equipped with a large 80kWh battery, the electric version of the boxy V25 mid-size SUV will only manage between 300–400km of range (WLTP).

That corresponds to thirsty energy consumption of 20–26kWh/100km.

Chery vice president Su Jun told carsales that iCaur’s visual identity did not rely on a square silhouette: “I don’t think boxy is the only gene of the family,” he said.

Luo hinted at some bold moves, confirming that the future range would consist of “mostly SUVs” … but perhaps not entirely.

The Road Ahead

iCaur will launch in Australia with the V25 and V27 in 2027, with the smaller V23 officially still under review.

The three additional vehicles could give the brand a broader offering than its initial adventure-themed range.

But none have yet been formally announced, let alone confirmed for Australia.
