Starting out as a hesitant 13-year-old earning his Surf Rescue Certificate, he grew into a full-time professional lifeguard, patrolling treacherous waters across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

He recounts the quiet, sharp shift in mindset that happens during an emergency, including the heart-pounding moment he performed CPR and helped bring a young child back to life, and the heavy emotional weight lifesavers carry when nature wins out.

Before wrapping up, Feann couldn't resist putting the D-MAX through its paces. Flicking the ute into four-wheel drive, they rolled off the tarmac and straight down the ramp onto the sands of Fairhaven Beach to test the patrol vehicle in its natural habitat – waterproof canvas covers, PA system and all.
