New customers will have to fork out at least $11,000 more for the highly-anticipated INEOS Grenadier off-roader when it arrives in Australia from January 2023.
The entry-level price for the hard-core off-road wagon now starts at $97,000 plus on-road costs for the Utility Wagon variant in either petrol or diesel form – up from the original $84,500 price and representing a price increase of $12,500.
However, customers who had already placed orders for their vehicles prior to November 9, 2022, won’t be slugged with the considerable price increases.
Prices for the entire INEOS Grenadier range have risen by between $11,905 and $13,030. The extra cash splash doesn’t bring any extra features to the BMW-engined mud-slingers and the price increase are understood to be due to the increasing costs of production and materials.
INEOS Automotive is a branch of the London-based multinational petro-chemical corporation INEOS Group and will begin selling the Grenadier through almost 30 Australia outlets at fixed prices, adopting a similar sales strategy to Honda and Mercedes-Benz.
The INEOS Grenadier, which finally entered production in France in October after several delays, would have been an even more expensive proposition were it not deemed exempt from Australia’s Luxury Car Tax (LCT).
Purpose-built for navigating treacherous terrain, the British off-roader can be ordered with several options, including an integrated 5500kg winch ($5430) and lockable storage around the spare wheel ($440).
Only Scottish White solid paint is free, with Magic Mushroom, Eldoret Blue, Britannia Blue, Sela Green and Inky Black all costing $900 extra. Metallic Sterling Silver, Shale Blue, Queen’s Red and Donny Grey will add $1230 to the price.
Various two-tone roof/body paint schemes are available ($1690) and Tunic Red or Emergency Orange front ($1400) or rear ($1060) body wraps are offered as well.
In addition to the initial five-door wagon versions, INEOS is also planning an electric short-wheelbase or ‘shorty’ version and a dual-cab Grenadier ute.
Order books opened in May for the INEOS Grenadier, which will be backed by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty and serviced by Bosch outlets, by which time it has already received about 1000 local pre-orders.
