The first INEOS Grenadier customer cars have rolled off the production line in Hambach ahead of first deliveries in December, marking the start of what many believe to be the start of a new off-road dynasty.
Global supply chain issues have hindered the start of series production this year, but INEOS has already churned out a few demonstrator vehicles – one of which was spotted at the UCI Road World Championships in Wollongong last month.
Component shortages have pushed the Grenadier’s global launch back numerous times already this year, prompting brand executives the describe today’s production commencement as a “landmark moment”.
“We’ve come a long way since the project kicked off in 2017 and this is a landmark moment for INEOS Automotive as a vehicle manufacturer,” INEOS Automotive commercial director Mark Tennant said.
“To get to this point is a testament to the resilience and hard work of the entire INEOS Automotive team, our development partners and our suppliers – for which we thank them all as we now look forward to making our first deliveries to customers.”
The Grenadier is being offered in 12 different guises Down Under, with prices varying from $84,500-$96,495 plus on-road costs depending on the variant, but plenty more are said to be in the pipeline, including a dual-cab ute and a battery-electric short-wheelbase wagon.
Australian orders opened officially in May, after more than 1000 pre-orders had been placed by November 2021, blowing the waiting time for new orders out past 12 months.
