Infiniti supercar concept to reality

Japanese luxury brand reveals its stunning GT6 videogame car in the metal for the first time

It was revealed virtually last December and now

has made its first appearance in the metal.

In what could be a sign that Infiniti still hopes to produce a stunning top-end supercar, Nissan's luxury brand staged the world debut of a real-life version of its virtual racer at the Infiniti Design Night on the eve of last week's Shanghai motor show in China.

First seen in the Gran Turismo 6 video game on PlayStation3, the sleek GT6 super-coupe concept is officially described as "a vision of what a high-performance Infiniti could look like in the future".

It was the result of an internal competition "to design a pure Infiniti GT car", says Infiniti. The contest was won by the company's Beijing design team and the car went on to join the long list of free downloads in the video game that has sold 72 million copied worldwide.

Infiniti says the concept is the ultimate expression of its design language but contains a number of Chinese influences including "fluid movement and the delicate gradation of the body... inspired by traditional Chinese calligraphy and landscape paintings, while the character lines uninhibitedly flowing through the car reflect the dynamism of China".

Unsurprisingly, no firm technical details are listed, but the GT6 version of the car is said to be powered by a hybrid powertrain comprising a front/mid-mounted 4.5-litre petrol V8 and electric motor.
