Volkswagen has announced a 2012 model year upgrade for the Golf hatch, introducing standard Bluetooth and MDI for certain models in the range.
MDI (Media Device Interface), a facility for patching external media sources through the car's audio system, is now standard for all models specified to the Comfortline level of trim and higher. Connection is via a USB cable, with VW dealers offering iPod cables as accessory at extra cost.
Bluetooth is now standard across the range, with the exception of 77TSI and Bluemotion models. The system features an audio streaming facility as well as hands-free telephony.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this added extra as standard to our already competitively priced Golf range, ” said Anke Koeckler, managing director of Volkswagen Group Australia. “Not only is the Golf one of Australia’s safest and most award-winning vehicles, it is now even better value to own.”
It's another step in taking away some of the pricing and equipment advantage enjoyed by Japanese and Korean rivals in the small-car segment.
