Issigonis' birthday marks new MINI intro date
BMW Group announces November 18 unveiling of next-generation MINIMINI has confirmed the next-generation of its globally successful retromobile will be unveiled at its UK plant in Oxford on November 18 (2013). The date marks 107 years to the day that Mini designer Sir Alex Issigonis was born as a British subject in a Greek community living in Turkey.
Two days later, on November 20 (2013), the new MINI will debut virtually simultaneously at motor show events in Los Angeles and Tokyo.
The new MINI is built on BMW’s front-drive UKL1 platform that will also underpin the Bavarian company’s next 1 and 2 series ranges.
As with the current MINI range, variants including convertible, coupe, Paceman, Roadster and Countryman will be progressively added to the line-up.
2013 is a jubilee year for the Oxford plant, a location that has seen more than 100 years of automobile production.
