Jaecoo's J7 range updated for MY27

Simplified SUV lineup brings petrol and plug-in hybrid options from $39,990 drive away

The News

The Jaecoo J7 mid-size SUV has received a MY27 update, with the brand simplifying the range while retaining the choice of turbo-petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Pricing now starts from $39,990 drive away, with the refreshed lineup comprising the Ridge AWD petrol, Track SHS-P plug-in hybrid and flagship Summit SHS-P available in both two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive forms.

The Key Details

  • MY27 Jaecoo J7 range streamlined to three variants
  • Petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains remain available
  • Pricing starts from $39,990 drive away
  • Up to 1200km claimed combined driving range for SHS-P variants
  • Ridge and Summit arrive this month, Track due in October

The Finer Details

The entry point to the MY27 range is now the Ridge AWD, which carries over with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 137kW and 275Nm. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, synthetic leather-appointed seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a 14.8-inch touchscreen, head-up display, built-in dash cam, panoramic sunroof and Sony eight-speaker audio system.

The Track SHS-P joins the range as the most affordable plug-in hybrid variant, matching the Ridge AWD's $39,990 drive-away price. It features Jaecoo's Super Hybrid System, combining a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor for total outputs of 205kW and 365Nm.

Buyers stepping up to the Summit SHS-P gain additional equipment including a heated steering wheel, head-up display, wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera system. The Summit is available in either two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive form.

The flagship Summit AWD adds a second electric motor on the rear axle, lifting combined outputs to a healthy 260kW and 490Nm.

Jaecoo claims the plug-in hybrid system can travel between 80km and 100km on electric power alone, depending on variant. An 18.4kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supports DC fast charging at up to 40kW, allowing a 30 to 80 per cent recharge in around 20 minutes.

Combined with a full fuel tank, the company says SHS-P variants can cover up to 1200km between refuelling stops.

Across the range, buyers receive a suite of driver assistance technologies including adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and autonomous emergency braking, while up to eight airbags are fitted depending on variant.

The J7 continues to be covered by an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, along with eight years of capped-price servicing, eight years of roadside assistance and an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre high-voltage battery warranty.

The Road Ahead

The updated Jaecoo J7 range will begin arriving in Australian showrooms this month, with Ridge AWD and Summit SHS-P variants leading the rollout. The Track SHS-P is scheduled to join the lineup in October.

With pricing parity between the entry-level petrol and plug-in hybrid variants, Jaecoo is clearly targeting buyers seeking electrified SUV motoring without a significant price premium.

How much does the Jaecoo J7 cost?

Track SHS-P – $39,990
Summit SHS-P 2WD – $44,990
