Jaguar design director Ian Callum has allowed Britain's Classic Motor Cars Limited (CMC) to produce a limited run of his personal project car, a unique Jaguar Mark 2 powered by a 190kW jaguar XK-sourced 4.3-litre inline six.
CMC says the overwhelming reaction to the car when it was revealed to the public last week convinced it to produce a limited-edition run of the special Mk2, which will mirror the vehicle Callum created for his own use.
“The car was only unveiled to the public just over a week ago but has attracted interest from all over the world,” said the Peter Neumark, the chairman of the Shropshire-based vehicle restorer, which spent 18 months developing the redesigned Mk2 to Callum's specifications.
"In my remarks at the launch of the car I said that we would love to build more, but little did I think the response would be so great. Within hours we had received calls from people all over the globe asking if they could buy one. We asked Ian Callum if we could produce a limited run and he has said yes.”
Devout Jaguar fan Callum said: “I redesigned the car and CMC rebuilt it and reengineered it for my personal use. I wasn't sure how it would be received but I have been both astounded and delighted with the response. I am pleased that a few more cars are going to be built.”
CMC hasn't revealed exactly how many Jaguar Mark 2 by Callums it will build, but says buyers will have the opportunity to choose their own body and interior colours – for a price of between £350,000 and £375,000 ($A611,000-$655,000).
