Rumours that Jaguar was set to backflip on its decision to go all-electric have been labelled as “rubbish” by the storied British marque, which says it remains committed to selling high-end battery-electric vehicles to rival the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

According to a report by The Sunday Times, Jaguar has been exploring “secret plans” to re-introduce some form of petrol power to its future line-up, likely in the form of a range-extender electric vehicle (EV).
The claims allegedly came from a source close to the Type 00’s development, and it was thought that JLR bosses were second-guessing the decision to exclusively offer EVs, given that demand had slowed.
According to Autocar, a senior source has now described the claims as “rubbish” and in a statement issued to carsales, a UK spokesperson for JLR said its electrification plans are “unchanged”.
"Our plans to reinvent Jaguar as an electric-only luxury automotive brand are unchanged,” said the spokesperson.
“Last month prototype passenger rides received overwhelmingly positive reactions from global media and we are looking forward to unveiling the first new electric Jaguar later this year."
The Jaguar Type 00 is set to go into production this year and will be joined by a saloon and SUV by 2027.
The Indian-owned British brand has been steeped in controversy since late 2024 when it announced its electric-only future, with a divisive marketing campaign to match.
Last month, claims it had fired chief designer Gerry McGovern circulated but were quickly dismissed.
