Kia has today released photos of its all-new K9 sedan. The model previously codenamed 'KH' will be launched during the first half of the year in its home market of South Korea. The name of the vehicle for export markets, and overseas launch timing, is expected to be announced late in 2012.
Kia says design, driving performance and technology were key factors in K9’s design. The model’s name follows others in the 'K' series range of passenger cars available in South Korea, including K5 (aka Optima) and K7 (aka Cadenza).
As the brand’s first rear-wheel drive car, K9 hints at the future direction of styling for the brand. Its solid form is said to evolve the brand’s DNA, though familiar design cues, such as the corporate ‘Schreyer’ grille remain. Further details will be revealed closer to the car's official launch.
“K9 is our first rear-wheel drive large sedan, created without compromise in its design, driving performance and new technologies,” explained Kia’s director of overseas marketing, Soon-Nam Lee.
“K9 sets a whole new level of standards and values in the large sedan segment, and its design will be another Kia demonstration of our brand’s power to surprise the world.”
