Mazda's Kodo design theme - exemplified in the Mazda6 and CX-5 - has been applied to a chair.
Unveiled during the Milan Design Week in Italy, Mazda's global head of design, Ikui Maeda, took the wraps of the "painstakingly crafted" Kodo Chair.
Infused with the Kodo 'soul of motion' ethos, Mazda says the unique chair has much in common with its car designs, "such as the ready-to-pounce, forward-leaning stance conveying the sudden release of pent-up energy".
Mazda's global design boss, Maeda-san, says the Kodo Chair has the potential to influence future car designs from the Japanese company.
"We believe the approach we've taken with the new Kodo Chair could influence our future car designs," he said.
"Our attitude is to accept any challenge if we believe we can create something unique. This is the way to develop a Mazda vehicle," stated Maeda-san.
Mazda's design chief says the company is "addressing a broader world at Milan Design Week" with the Kodo Chair.
"We're here to share our creative vision, expand our horizons, and be inspired in such a stimulating environment and, I hope, we will inspire others," added Maeda.
Other prominent car designers have previously cited furniture as being influential in the development of their car designs, including global design chiefs from Kia/Hyundai and Land Rover, Peter Schreyer and Gerry McGovern.
The Kodo Chair also saw input from Mazda's European and North American design chiefs, Peter Birtwhistle and Derek Jenkins.
