VIDEO: Watch 1.1MW V8 Koenigsegg Regera’s epic burnout

Swedish car-maker proves it doesn't need gears to incinerate its rear tyres

Koenigsegg has a released a six-second video of its Regera lighting up its rear tyres in an attempt to prove the incredible might of its all-new hypercar.

The huge burnout shown in the short video, posted on the car-maker's official Facebook page, is proof that a direct-drive transmission in place of a traditional gearbox is more than capable of breaking traction when there’s a 1119kW/2000Nm twin-turbo V8 hybrid powerplant under the rear boot lid.

The short demo is claimed to be only the tip of the smoke-enshrouded iceberg.

According to company founder Christian von Koenigsegg, speaking at this year's Geneva motor show, the Regera -- in the dry with its ESC switched off -- is capable not only of outrageous burnouts but can spin up its rear wheels all the way up to 280km/h.

It's no surprise, perhaps, when you look at the performance figures released earlier this year at the Swiss show.

Against the clock, the Regera is claimed to hit 100km/h in just 2.8sec, reach 200km/h from standstill in an astonishing 6.6sec and top out at 400km/h.

Bugatti’s claims for the all-wheel drive Chiron are respectively 2.5sec, 6.5sec and 420km/h (380km/h with its ‘drivability’ wing extended).

Koenigsegg says it plans to make just 80 Regeras over five years, each priced at around $3.1m.
