Lamborghini Aventador replacement set for March 29 debut

The all-new 2023 Lamborghini Aventador successor will be unleashed on March 29, the Italian car-maker has revealed.

Up until now, Lamborghini has provided only a few tantalising details for the new supercar, including its LB744 project name and teasers of its full carbon-fibre monocoque and wild 757kW V12 hybrid powertrain.

Next week’s unveiling coincides with the 60th anniversary of Lamborghini, and despite the lack of information revealed thus far, the supercar marque is expecting more than two years’ worth of production to be accounted for within the first couple of months of the order book opening early in April.

It’s not hard to see why, especially when you pore over the limited details available.

Not only is the V12 naturally aspirated, it uses a total of three electric motors to deliver full torque vectoring and provide for all-wheel drive in 13 very different driving modes that range from an EV-only stealth mode and maximum comfort setting to full-attack Corsa mode.

Then there’s the advanced air bending that is claimed to provide 60 per cent better aero efficiency while mustering 70 per cent more downforce.

The astonishing engineering extends to the advanced forged ‘monofuselage’ carbon-fibre monocoque that is more rigid and lighter to ensure the LB744 is only 130kg heavier than the car it replaces.

That’s despite the addition of plug-in hybrid hardware weighing 200kg, plus a heavier eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Most will buy it because of its expected wild looks – and the life-affirming soundtrack delivered by the 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 that, by itself, delivers 607kW and 725Nm of torque.

Ensuring what’s expected to be hypercar-troubling levels of performance, the LB744 adds 110kW/350Nm from each of its front electric motors, plus a further 110kW/150Nm from another electric motor at the rear.

Reining in all that power are enormous 10-piston Brembo brake callipers on each front hub and four-piston units at the rear. Both pairs of callipers chomp down on carbon-ceramic discs that measure in at 410mm on the front axle and 390mm at the rear.

Throw in a newly developed suspension system, Magna-ride active dampers and unprecedented torque vectoring, and the LB744 will be among the best supercars on the planet.
