Lamborghini has kicked off its Geneva motor show by pulling the drapes off its new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster.
Limited to a global production run of 800 cars, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster shuns the usual folding fabric roof for a ultra-lightweight carbon-fibre panel that can be stored under the Lambo's bonnet.
Claimed to feature the same structural rigidity as the coupe, the droptop Aventador SVJ is claimed to only weigh an additional 50kg over the hardtop.
Powered by the same end-of-an-era 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 as the SVJ coupe, the Roadster produces an identical 566kW of power and 720Nm of torque.
Feeding the power to all four wheels via a seven-speed single-clutch automated manual, Lamborghini claims its flagship Aventador SVJ roadster is capable of hitting 100km/h in 2.9 seconds, 200km/h in a remarkable 8.8 seconds before eventually running out of steam at 349km/h.
Like the coupe, the Roadster sports a pair of ultra-light alloy wheels, gets powerful carbon ceramic brakes, adaptive dampers and agility-boosting four-wheel steer.
The Roadster also gets an updated version of the tin top's adaptive aerodynamics that adjusts downforce around the car to set the spoilers up for cornering or flat-out blasts along the straights.
Inside, the Aventador SVJ gets an almost identical cabin to the stripped-out coupe, although in the Roadster the rear window can be lowered to allow more of the V12 soundtrack to permeate through the cabin.
In Europe the Aventador SVJ Roadster is priced from €387,007 ($A620,000) with deliveries set to begin around the third quarter of 2019.
