Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, has handed over a Huracán LP610-4 to the Italian State Police in a ceremony at the Museo delle Auto Storiche della Polizia di Stato. ''We have a strong and fitting relationship with the Italian State Police,'' said Winkelmann. "The new Lamborghini Huracán stands for Italian super sports car excellence and we are proud to provide it to the Italian State Police to carry out the specialist tasks these police cars undertake."
The donation of the latest Lambo is not without precedent, the company having previously donated Gallardos to the state police in 2004 and 2008.
Present at the ceremony to receive the keys to the Huracan was Prefect Alessandro Pansa, the head of the Italian State Police. The Huracan will be pressed into service with the Italian coppers before the end of the year, primarily in an accident and crime prevention role.
''Today is an important day, since two Italian excellences meet and strengthen their relationship which started in 2004 with the handing over of the Lamborghini Gallardo to the Italian State Police. In the last ten years, the Italian State Police used the car for prevention purposes and in order to enhance street security,'' Pansa declared.
The Huracán will enter service with a full array of high-tech (and low-tech) devices to assist the police crew. These include a video system offering real-time replay and GPS data embedding to prove speed and location of the Lamborghini (and the vehicle being pursued, by extension). This system can also transfer video footage wirelessly for automatic number plate tracking and identification.
A defibrillator is on board also, and there's a refrigerated section in the luggage compartment for the emergency transport of organs for medical purposes.
