Lamborghini’s long-awaited, heavily swooned-over SUV now has a due date.
On December 4, Lamborghini will aim to reset high-riding benchmarks with the unveiling of its Urus SUV in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, the firm’s global headquarters.
Confirming the arrival date overnight at the Frankfurt motor show, along with yet another teaser shot to add to recent spy photos, Lamborghini stakeholders set some lofty benchmarks for their breakaway new model.
“The Lamborghini Urus redefines possibilities, creating a class of its own: unprecedented SUV performance, luxury and versatility, with the distinctive dynamic design DNA of a Lamborghini super sports car,” a Lamborghini release said.
“The Super Sports Utility Vehicle is no longer impossible.”
Lamborghini will need to best the efforts of Porsche, Range Rover, Maserati and Bentley if it is to live up to expectations.
Key to the Urus’ dynamic prowess will likely be a twin-turbo V8 engine offering 485kW of power, a drivetrain that will eventually be flanked by a separate plug-in hybrid variant.
According to reports, the Urus will go on sale in Europe in the second quarter of 2018, which suggests a late 2018/early 2019 Australian arrival. Speculation suggests the ground-breaking model will start at $AU250,000 in the US.
The SUV is expected to more than double Lamborghini’s annual global sales, with production of the high-rider slated to reach 3500 vehicles alone by 2019.
