Land Rover is celebrating the sale of its one-millionth Range Rover Sport, just a year after the Range Rover nameplate marked its 50th anniversary.
Introduced in 2005 with the L320 first-generation Sport, the smaller take on the full-size Range Rover was inspired heavily by the well-received Range Stormer concept that was unveiled back in 2004 at the Detroit motor show.
Still only on its second generation (L494), during its lifetime the Range Rover Sport has become one of Land Rover's fastest-selling vehicles, embraced new tech like a full plug-in hybrid powertrain and was, briefly, the fastest SUV to ever set a time at the fearsome Nurburgring when the flagship SVR completed the circuit in just 8.14 minutes back in 2014.
With a final facelifted Sport set to arrive in Australia later in 2021, Land Rover will introduce an all-new Range Rover Sport built on its latest state-of-the-art MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform in 2022.
When it arrives, as well as mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, Land Rover will offer a pure-electric version for the first time that's set to share much with the battery-powered Jaguar XJ.
