The Land Rover Defender is turning 75 this year and, to celebrate, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Australia is bringing in 75 examples of the just-revealed 2023 Land Rover Defender 75th Limited Edition.
Available to order now, the limited-run special is being offered in both short-wheelbase two-door Defender 90 and long-wheelbase five-door Defender 110 configurations, with prices starting from $152,077 and $156,157 plus on-road costs respectively.
Those asking prices make the 75th Limited Editions the second-most expensive Defender variants of their respective line-ups by at least a couple of grand over the usually penultimate P400 X variants with which they share their powertrains – only the flagship V8s cost (considerably) more.
For reference, the P400 powertrain is the second-most powerful in the Defender line-up, comprising a 294kW/550Nm 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder petrol engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Despite the higher sticker prices, the 75th Limited Editions are actually based on the lesser HSE grade when it comes to their standard equipment lists, but their exclusivity and bespoke special-edition touches justify their price premium.
All 75 examples will ship in a ‘Grasmere Green’ exterior colour – including the 20-inch wheels – and don equally unique 75 Years graphics.
Black privacy glass and silver bumpers add a couple of layers of contrast to the package, with the Grasmere Green theme being continued within the cabin; primarily on the dashboard and door trims.
Standard equipment highlights on the 75th Limited Editions include a 3D surround camera, configurable Terrain Response, a Meridian sound system, Matrix LED front lighting, an 11.4-inch infotainment system, head-up display, wireless device charger, sliding panoramic roof, 14-way power adjustment for the heated front seats with memory function, heated steering wheel, three-zone climate control, tow bar and ‘Resist Ebony’ upholstery.
Defender chief engineer Stuart Frith said the new limited-edition “captures the spirit of the past 75 years, with its colour and detailing, and fuses it with innovative, configurable Terrain Response, software over the air updates and unrivalled all-terrain capability”.
Deliveries of the Australian vehicles are anticipated for April next year.
