Land Rover's new Discovery will feature world-first technology which will allow owners to remotely change the configuration of the cars seating via an App that can be downloaded and used on any android or iOS smartphone, even while sky diving.
To prove the point, former SAS soldier and TV survivalist Bear Grylls, along with six members of the British Royal Navy Parachute Display Team, dived out of a plane and hurtled towards the ground at 200 kilometres per hour while Grylls used his phone to change the seating layout of his Land Rover Discovery on the ground below to accommodate himself and the six navy divers.
Once safely on the ground, Bear Grylls said: "Land Rover is proving why the New Discovery is the ultimate family SUV. The fact that they have created this world-first Intelligent Seat Fold technology is impressive in itself and for the remote function to work while we are freefalling from a plane is pretty cool!"
"I'm not sure many people will be using it in such a manner but the technology to operate the car remotely in this way will undoubtedly be a real winner for busy families who want to be prepared."
The 'InControl Remote Premium' app will enable the intelligent 'Seat Fold' technology to completely reconfigure the two rear rows of seats at the owner's discretion in 14 seconds, according to Land Rover.
When owners aren't hurtling through the sky, switches within the luggage area and on the C pillars allow the seats to be moved or folded while standing beside the vehicle. Row two and three seats can also be raised and lowered using the main touch-screen display on the dashboard.
Land Rover's Chief Engineer of the new Discovery, Alex Heslop, said: "This unique feature sets the New Discovery apart from any other vehicle. The fact that owners can change the seating while doing things like queuing with their shopping is a true milestone in convenience delivered through technological innovation."
The new Land Rover Discovery is set for its international debut on the 28th of September.
