Land Rover Discovery XXV Special Edition

British marque celebrates 25 years of Discovery SUV with premium special edition

Land Rover is celebrating the Discovery large SUV's 25th birthday by developing a special edition packed with luxury features, and it'll be on sale in Australia later in 2014.

Dubbed the Discovery XXV Special Edition, the new model offers "distinctive visual style and premium interior" says Land Rover, backed up with the SUV's well-documented mud-slinging capability.

Although Land Rover Australia has not yet put a price on the special edition Disco, it's based on the high-end HSE model, which starts at $96,200 in Australia (not including on-road costs) and provides a ballpark figure.

The bonus gear comprises adaptive xenon headlights hooked up to an automatic high beam system, keyless entry, special 'signature' LED daytime running lights and primo interior fit out.

Most of the surfaces in the cockpit are covered in Windsor leather, including the instrument shroud and door top rolls, and three leather colours are offered - ebony, cirrus or a combination of both in dual-tone.

Twist pile carpet mats and XXV Special Edition embossing round out the interior goodies.

There's plenty of exterior bling too, like new 20-inch alloy wheels with a silver-polish finish, dark mirror caps, grille surrounds, grille and fender vents. Bringing out the shiny wheels are silver roof rails and a stainless steel bumper tread plate.

Naturally, XXV badges adorn the front doors and tailgate of the Land Rover Discovery XXV Special Edition.

Four colours are available, all of them with noble names, such as Causeway Grey, Indus Silver, Fuji White and Santorini Black.

Since the Disco was introduced in 1989, more than a million of them have been sold worldwide, and sales of the rugged seven-seat SUV in Australia remain strong. With 2173 sales during 2013, it represents a 9.1 per cent increase on the year prior, up from 1992 units.

Jaguar Land Rover's group marketing director, Phil Popham, said the Discovery XXV Special Edition will be "the ultimate in sophisticated versatility and a fitting tribute to the legendary status of this iconic Land Rover".
