LDV G10 van replacement coming this year

All-new mid-size commercial van confirmed for Aussie showrooms from October, in both EV and combustion forms

LDV Australia is set to replace the ageing yet popular LDV G10 in the final quarter of this year with an all-new commercial van offering both combustion and electric drivetrains.

Likely to be based on the Maxus V70 (pictured) sold in China, LDV Australia’s as-yet-unnamed G10 replacement will renew the Chinese brand’s battle with the likes of the Toyota HiAce and Hyundai Staria Load.

While the Japanese and Korean vans sit one and two respectively ahead of the G10 for sales, the Chinese commercial has pinched significant sales volumes from it better-known rivals despite being eight years old and lacking increasingly important driver-safety aids.

The addition of a mid-size EV van will bolster the new LDV eDeliver 9 large electric van and provide Australians with an alternative to the Mercedes-Benz eVito and other upcoming electric vans including the 2023 Ford E-Transit and 2024 E-Transit Custom.

“2023 will see the arrival of a dynamic new mid-size van in both ICE and EV engine variants and three roof options,” LDV said in a release. “Scheduled for launch in Q4, it’s expected this vehicle will have the same impact in its respective segment as the well-received LDV Deliver 9.”

It’s not yet known whether LDV will retire the G10 and opt for a new naming designation for its mid-size van. LDV’s Australian distributor has been contacted for comment.

New regulations due in effect from March this year, which will make crash avoidance technology mandatory in new commercial vans, will likely dictate the retirement of the G10 as well as the larger LDV V80.

Either way, LDV is expecting big things from its new mid-size van.

“The Deliver 9 is a clear example of what the LDV brand is capable of achieving,” said Dinesh Chinnappa, LDV’s Australian general manager.

“To take leadership in just two years requires a dedicated dealer network, outstanding product and a great value proposition. We believe that our future new product roll-out will be equally successful.

“To that end, we expect our new mid-size van will replicate the success of the Deliver 9 and shake up its respective segment, too.”
