BMW's answer to the top-selling Mercedes-Benz W222 S-Class, the next-generation 7 Series limousine, has been inadvertently outed by the company's Australian public website two days before its world debut in Munich tomorrow (June 10; early Wednesday morning our time). The Bavarian car-maker's redesigned flagship sedan has been seen in official 'spy' shots and in the first teaser video, but this is the first time it has been seen in full without camouflage.
This single complete image, which first appeared on BMW Austria's online configurator, shows the G11 short-wheelbase (to be followed by the G12 long-wheelbase) brings only evolutionary differences – at least in terms of design. According to BMW Austria, the all-new vehicle will be powered by the choice of three new engine from launch, and available — at least in Europe — with standard rear-wheel drive and option or optional xDrive AWD.
Opening the range is a new turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder common-rail turbo-diesel codenamed B57 and delivering 195kW in the 730d and 730d xDrive. Next up is a new turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine codenamed B58 and offering 240kW in the 740i, while the range-topping (for now) 750i xDrive comes with a a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 delivering 330kW. In Australia, where the new Seven will arrive next year, the outgoing 730d is priced from $206,200, but in Austria the new 730d will cost €100,445 ($A146,685), rising to €107,480 for the 730d xDrive guise.
The 740i will start at €107,690 in Austria, where the 750i xDrive is pegged at €137,935. A host of features also appeared on the European site's configurator, including Driving Assistance Plus, which is expected to comprise a number of semi-autonomous functions, an M Sport Package, adaptive full LED headlights, a Pure Excellence interior, Alcantara headlining, four-zone climate-control, coolbox, front/rear ventilated seats, adjustable rear seats,
Surround View and a range of wheel designs ranging in size from 17- to 20-inch. A total of 13 exterior paint colours will also be available in Australia, including Black Sapphire, Carbon Black, Alpine White, Black College, Glacier Silver, Cashmere Silver, Sophisto Grey, Imperial Blue, Singapore Grey, Mineral White, Arctic Grey Brilliant, Jatoba and Magellan Grey.
