Leaked: New Volvo XC90

Dutch website spills first complete official images of Volvo's all-new SUV flagship ahead of tomorrow's press embargo

First official images of Volvo's brave new XC90 – the first model to be based on the Scandinavian brand's new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) – have been leaked by Autoblog.nl almost 12 hours ahead of the all-new SUV's official media embargo later today in Sweden (8:00am AEST Wednesday).

Volvo's second-generation XC90 can be seen here for the first time in a full range of action, still and detail images – in a variety of exterior and interior colours – revealing its luxurious new seven-seat cabin with all-new 'button-free' dashboard dominated by a large central touch-screen.

However, the most striking aspects of its otherwise conventional five-door wagon body design – a new vertical-bar grille and headlights with unique T-shaped LED daytime running lights dubbed 'Thor's Hammer' after the Norse god of thunder – were revealed in a teaser image two weeks ago.

The new range-topping T8 plug-in hybrid version is also pictured. It's powered by a four-cylinder hybrid 'Twin Engine' powertrain incorporating turbocharging, supercharging and an electric motor to deliver 298kW of peak power and CO2 emissions of just 60g/km.

Volvo has also announced its new SUV flagship – the first new XC90 in more than 12 years -- will also offer a range of new 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel Drive-E engines.

We'll publish full official details tomorrow, but Volvo has promised "the most comprehensive and technologically sophisticated standard safety package available in the automotive industry" for the XC90, which will be fitted as standard with new world-first 'run-off road protection' and 'autobrake at intersections' systems.

Other features will include pre-crash protection in rear impacts (via rear-facing radars), rollover prevention/protection, blind-spot detection, auto-braking functionality, adaptive cruise control with steering assistance, and even night-time pedestrian and animal detection systems.

Volvo's biggest model will also be able to reverse and parallel park itself, as well being easier to park, thanks to 360-degree camera views, proximity parking sensors and a reversing camera.

The 2015 XC90 will make its global public premiere at the Paris motor show on October 2, before going on sale in Australia next May.
