Leapmotor has added a range extender hybrid variant to its B10 compact SUV, offering an alternative powertrain alongside the recently launched battery electric version – with both hybrid and EV models now priced identically in Australia.

Like its BEV sibling, the Leapmotor B10 Hybrid EV remains rear-wheel drive and uses the same 160kW/240Nm electric motor to power the wheels.
The key difference is the addition of a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which acts solely as a generator to recharge the 18.8kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.
This range extender setup means the engine never drives the wheels directly.

Leapmotor claims up to 84 kilometres of pure electric driving range (WLTP), while the addition of a 50-litre fuel tank increases total driving range to as much as 900 kilometres. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 0.9L/100km (WLTP).
Performance is slightly improved over the pure EV, with a 0–100km/h time of 7.5 seconds compared to eight seconds for the BEV, while top speed remains unchanged at 170km/h.
Charging capability is modest, with DC fast charging capped at 46kW and AC charging at 6.6kW. A 30–80 per cent DC charge is quoted at approximately 20 minutes, although this figure carries a qualifier in Leapmotor’s release.

Drivers can choose between four drive modes – EV+, EV, Fuel and Power+ – to control how and when the petrol generator is used.
Inside, the Hybrid EV mirrors the BEV’s cabin, featuring a 14.6-inch central touchscreen running LEAP OS 4.0 Plus, an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a full suite of L2 driver assistance systems.
A 360-degree camera with integrated dashcam and a 3D cockpit layout are also standard.

The entry-level Style variant includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, panoramic glass roof with electric sunshade, climate control, wireless charging and connected services.
Stepping up to the Design adds TechnoLeather upholstery, powered front seats, heated and ventilated front seating, heated steering wheel, a 12-speaker sound system, power tailgate, ambient lighting and rear privacy glass, along with upgraded Hankook iON evo tyres.
As with the BEV, Leapmotor backs the B10 with an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty, eight years of capped-price servicing and roadside assistance, and a six-year/150,000km vehicle warranty.
Adding a range extender hybrid to the B10 line-up reflects growing demand in Australia for EV alternatives that reduce range anxiety without sacrificing electric driving for daily use.
Crucially, Leapmotor has removed any pricing barrier between the hybrid and pure electric variants, making the extended-range option available for buyers without reliable home charging or those regularly travelling longer distances.
With an 84 kilometre electric range covering most commuting needs and a 900 kilometre total range for longer trips, the Hybrid EV could broaden the B10’s appeal significantly in the budget SUV segment.
