The Melbourne Cup is renowned for its big, flash and silly hats, and this year Lexus will get in on the act by displaying the Lexus Electrified Sport electric supercar concept car at Flemington.
Due to make its Australian debut at the Landmark by Lexus pavilion over November 4-11, the Electrified Sport is sure to draw plenty of eager (and wealthy) onlookers throughout the Melbourne Cup Carnival, providing potential customers with an ultimate preview of EVs to come from premium Japanese brand.
“The future of mobility is electrified, and the Lexus Electrified Sport is an absolutely breathtaking representation of what a next-generation flagship Lexus supercar will be like, and the type of exciting BEVs Lexus will offer,” Lexus Australia chief executive John Pappas said.
“Lexus Electrified Sport makes a statement about where Lexus is heading, and you can see why we are so excited about our future.”
The swoopy zero-emissions coupe was first shown in late 2021 and has been the topic of very in-depth discussion and speculation ever since, with rumours and hints of outputs, range, manual transmissions and even an electrified V8 powertrain doing the rounds and, in turn, capturing the hearts of Lexus fans everywhere.
The big hope is the eventual production version will be an all-out Lexus LFA supercar successor with next to no compromise in its pursuit of performance, capturing the spirit of the soulful V10-powered LFA limited-edition in the process.
Whether or not Lexus can pull this off remains to be seen, but the Toyota-owned premium brand says the concept would be good for a 2.0sec 0-100km/h sprint time and more than 700km of range from a single charge.
The Electrified Sport will be joined in Flemington by the pint-size Lexus LBX compact SUV, which is due on sale Down Under by mid-2024.
