Lexus Australia has announced pricing for its updated 2022 Lexus ES ahead of its local arrival late next month, with a new starting price of $62,140 plus on-road costs marking a subtle $520 increase.
That applies to the entry-level ES 250 Luxury and largely sets the tone for the rest of the luxury sedan range, which has gone up by between $730 and $990 depending on the variant.
The extra outlay isn’t just inflation, however; it’s in exchange for an infotainment upgrade that bins the old and clunky touchpad and replaces it with ‘Hey Lexus’ voice control, and introduces wireless Apple CarPlay as standard.
The cable-free smartphone integration is accompanied by a new wireless charging pad that, this time around, doesn’t interfere or delete the front USB-C ports thanks to the removal of the track pad.
As for the Connected Services, they now comprise ‘Lexus Multimedia Connect’, which Lexus says allows for cloud-based connected navigation with live traffic, weather, parking and map updates, location searching, and first- and last-mile routing.
Other key inclusions are the Lexus Status Connect and Lexus Remote Connect suites, which allow owners to monitor and interact with key vehicle parameters and functions from their smartphone.
Using the former, owners can access their car’s odometer, fuel level, remaining range, last known location, vehicle diagnostic data, recent trip details and tyre pressures.
They can also check if the doors, windows, boot and bonnet are closed and locked (and receive alerts if unlocked or open), and monitor and activate the hazard lights remotely if required.
In addition, Lexus Remote Connect lets owners lock and unlock the doors and bonnet, start the engine and even sound the horn remotely.
The only other changes of note revolve around the exterior and interior colour schemes. The ‘Black exterior hue’ has been removed, while the ‘Sonic Quartz’ and ‘Deep Blue’ colours have been replaced by ‘White Nova’ and ‘Cobalt Mica’ on the F Sport variants.
Finally, inside the cabin, the ‘Rich Cream’ upholstery colour has been superseded by the lighter ‘Solis White’ shade.
“Technology and safety have both been boosted across the ES line-up as part of the Lexus ‘Always On’ approach of continuous product improvement,” Lexus said.
“Customers of the ES petrol and hybrid (HEV) variants will enjoy greater usership and intuitive luxury convenience with the expansion of Lexus Connected Services1 and more multimedia functions.”
