Lexus has announced longer warranty coverage for its new cars, starting with the 2021 Lexus UX 300e – the brand’s first battery-electric vehicle that’s now on sale in Australia.
The prestige brand plans for the entire model range to be covered by the upgraded five-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty with effect from next year, moving from its current four-year/100,000km term.
While the new mark merely matches that of Mercedes-Benz and Genesis – and aligns Lexus with even the most affordable models from parent company Toyota – it places the Japanese premium brand at an advantage against other key rivals such as Audi and BMW.
And at 10 years, the battery warranty is right at the top end of the industry.
“True to our word, I’m delighted to announce that, from launch, we are introducing a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty for the UX 300e, that we call the Lexus Warranty Experience,” Lexus Australia chief executive Scott Thompson told journalists at the UX 300e launch.
“And, yes, from January 1, the new Lexus Warranty Experience will apply to all new Lexus vehicles – five years, unlimited.”
Thompson added that the warranty coverage will be retrospective, applicable to all new Lexus cars and SUVs sold in Australia during 2021.
The Lexus boss also confirmed that the battery warranty for all electrified vehicles – not only EVs and plug-in hybrids, but regular hybrid models as well – would be covered for up to 10 years.
“Our confidence in reliability allows us to extend the high-voltage battery warranty for all our
electrified vehicles to 10 years/unlimited [kilometres] – that’s hybrid-electric, plug-in hybrid-electric and battery-electric,” he said.
