Lexus LS 600hL upgrades for 2010
A better deal, at lower prices, for Lexus 600hL hybrid customersSelf-healing paintwork, a bigger boot, more comfortable back seats and Euro V emissions compliance will delight buyers of the Lexus flagship, the LS 600hL.
The big hybrid sedan debuts the self-healing exterior paint which, according to Lexus, "helps maintain a superb finish over the vehicle's lifetime."
Self-healing paint is not new, and it is certainly not the province of Lexus alone, but it does play a role in resisting scratches and is actually able to "heal" small scratches when they do occur -- a nice thing to know when you are driving a car priced at around one quarter of a million dollars.
Addressing criticism of the car's luggage capacity, the 40-litre increase in boot volume -- from 370 litres to a much more reasonable 410 litres -- comes via a rearrangement of the hybrid battery pack which now comes in "two sections of six and 14 modules," and a smaller rear air-conditioning unit.
Back-seat passengers, in both four-seat and five-seat versions of the LS 600hL, also benefit from larger side bolsters on the outboard side that better support passengers' hips, while four-seater versions gain an extra 40mm of legroom -- on the passenger's side -- when the front seat is moved fully forward.
The big Lexus is cleaner too, with tweaks to the management of the hybrid-drive system (including a new ECO mode that monitors and manages both throttle response and air-conditioning), enabling it to meet Euro V emissions standards. CO2 emissions and fuel economy, at 219kg/km and 9.3L/100km, are unchanged.
Other changes include a revised interior with a new LCD display on the instrument panel, new-look gauges, subtle changes to the upper air vents and new audio switchgear.
Outside, you'll pick the latest Lexus via a new four-bar grille, a redesigned bumper, new headlights, new door mirrors with LED indicators and a new, one-piece rocker moulding.
Reflecting reduced import tariffs, the big Lexus sedan is priced at $243,900 in four-seat form, and at $250,900 for the five-seater.
