Lexus hopes to steal the limelight at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show where it will show off its all-new new compact luxury hatchback model.
The first official sketch was released this week, showing the sleek and sporty design direction the hatch will take.
It is unclear whether Lexus' compact premium car will be a three- or a five-door hatch but is due to arrive in Australia in the first half of 2011.
Developed to take on the BMW 1 Series hatch and Audi A3, the new model is likely to become one of Lexus' biggest-selling models with a price point of under $50,000.
As is the case with the majority of the Lexus fleet, the new hatch will be offered with hybrid powertrains.
Lexus of America has already trademarked the CT 200h, CT 300h and CT 400h names, which suggests the arrival of hybrid models (all Lexus hybrids are designated by an 'h').
Unlike most other Lexus models however, the new hatch is expected to be front-wheel drive to keep costs down.
We'll have reporters on the ground in Germany at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show from September 15 to deliver all the news.
