Lexus reveals LS500h hybrid flagship

Mercedes S-Class-rival gets 264kW hybrid powertrain that boasts two transmissions

Lexus has released the first image of its new LS500h hybrid based on its flagship LS sedan.

The new hybrid-powered BMW 7-Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class-rival is said to combine a 220kW 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol with both a conventional four-speed automatic and a CVT transmission that cleverly packages, within it, an electric motor.

Together they're expected to produce more power and torque than the standard 310kW/600Nm LS500 produces, despite its 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6.

Lexus will reveal the actual figures at the Swiss show but it's thought the significant 90kg weight saving over the previous model, combined with the twin-transmissions, will being considerable efficiency savings.

As well as the range-topping hybrid, the premium Japanese car maker also released pictures of the RC F GT3 racer it will unveil that will compete in Japan's Super GT series and the IMSA in the US.
