Pumping up the volume and potentially sales, the MINI Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk Edition has launched in Australia with headline features including a more impressive sound system and some other special touches.
Based on the British brand’s MINI Cooper S Convertible (from $51,100), the Sidewalk Edition is priced at $55,800 plus on-road costs and is easily identified by its exclusive 17-inch ‘Scissor’ light alloy wheels and Laguna Blue paintwork.
White Silver or Midnight Black body colours are also available, while a special arrow graphic is woven into the soft-top roof. There’s also Sidewalk Edition bonnet stripes.
Inside, the leather interior is trimmed with contrasting yellow and blue stitching/accents.
The door sill plates and three-spoke leather-clad steering wheel also come with a ‘Sidewalk’ logo, while the pièce de resistance is a thumping Harman Kardon premium sound system with 12 speakers (410 Watts) and eight-channel digital amplifier.
This is a neatly complemented by the standard running gear in the MINI Cooper S Convertible, which includes the sonorous 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (141kW/280Nm).
Driving the front wheels through a seven speed dual-clutch auto, the S cabrio can reach 100km/h from standstill in a claimed 7.1 seconds.
MINI Australia says the arrival of the Sidewalk Edition stems from a collaboration between Harman Kardon and artist Owl Eyes, known as Sidewalk Sounds, which is described as “a much-needed response to the live music drought that has happened since the pandemic took hold of the globe”.
