Maserati busts out the MC hammer

Now Maserati is getting in on the act via its new 'MC Sport Line' customisation program, which also ostensibly taps into the brand's racing heritage.
The trident marque is debuting the new MC Sport Line at this week's Bologna motor show via a tweaked GranTurismo S -- chosen to represent the new customisation line as it's "the ultimate expression of Maserati's performance".
However, Maserati points out the MC Sport Line catalogue will be extended to the standard GranTurismo range and will ultimately encompass the company's entire line-up during the course of 2009.
The tweaks offered by MC Sport Line are designed not only to boost the aesthetics of the exterior and interior, the mods also comprise different "technical solutions".
The options include front and rear carbonfibre spoilers, which are said to benefit from track tests conducted on the GranTurismo MC Concept.
Maserati claims the new aerodynamics not only optimise the vertical load but give the car a distinctive appearance, as do the side skirts with the central panel finished in matt black, "adding a dynamic edge to the side view".
If you're a real carbonfibre fetishist you can order mirror housings and door handles made of the stuff, too.
It doesn't end there, as the door panels, dashboard and central tunnel are similarly swathed in carbonfibre. Of course, the steering wheel rim is also made from carbonfibre, as are the paddle shifts for the electro-actuated transmission.
Under the skin, the suspension has been stiffened via new, stiffer springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. The car sits 10mm lower than the GranTurismo S, and Maserati says the modified electronic stability program software allows the driver more freedom before cutting in.
The Bologna show car rides on glossy black 20-inch rims, and these are also available as part of the MC Sport Line package.
Incidentally, all these goodies can be ordered individually or collectively. It all depends on your tastes and the thickness of your wallet.
