Maserati GranTurismo S MC-Shift arrives in Oz

With more mid-range punch and clever transmission software the GranTurismo S is on sale now for $345,000

Maserati Australia says it has achieved the ideal combination of power, fuel economy and price with its 2012 GranTurismo S MC-Shift.

The updated coupe receives technology grafted from the Ferrari Formula One Team. This includes new engine technology dubbed Diamond-Like Coating (DLC), which reduces internal friction, increases power and reduces fuel consumption. The results are an 8kW/20Nm rise in output to 331kW/510Nm and a six per cent reduction in the car’s combined fuel consumption figure to 15.5L/100km.

Maserati’s 4.7-litre V8 engine accelerates GranTurismo S MC-Shift from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds. Top speed is claimed at 295km/h.

New additions see GranTurismo S MC-Shift adopt carbon fibre trim both inside and out while also receiving a revised suspension tune, improved steering response and aerodynamic carbon fibre spoilers front and rear.

The car retains its pneumatically-controlled exhaust offering two distinct vocal settings, while the electro-actuated six-speed transmission is now paired with MC-Shift software which Maserati says “harnesses the full range of the engine’s power output in a highly effective manner, ensuring gearshift speed and quality”.

Maserati GranTurismo S MC-Shift rides on 20-inch alloy wheels and is stopped by dual-cast cross-drilled compound discs grabbed by six-piston callipers. Designed in conjunction with Brembo, Maserati says the brakes are optimised for performance, fade resistance and enhanced pedal feel.

Finally, an MC Sportline suspension package includes uprated shock absorbers, stiffer springs and revised anti-roll bars fore and aft.

“The increased power and torque along with the improved mid-range performance will enable owners to more fully exploit the changes to suspension and steering we made,” explained Maserati Australia’s general manager, Glen Sealey. “Simultaneously, the improvement in fuel consumption clearly shows that Maserati is using the latest technology to ensure its products recognise today’s requirements for reducing fuel consumption and cutting emissions.”

The 2012 Maserati GranTurismo S MC-Shift is on sale now from $345,000 (MRLP).
