Italian sports car maker Maserati has presented its new Granturismo Sport MC Shift at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.
Seen charging up the famous hill climb at the Goodwood Estate in front of almost 150,000 spectators, the new Granturismo Sport will top the range of Maserati sports cars, sitting above the regular Granturismo and Granturismo S.
Powered by the same 4.7-litre Ferrari-designed V8 engine as its siblings, the Sport's engine has been tweaked to deliver more impact -- outputting 338kW up from 324kW.
Torque has also been upped from 490Nm to 520Nm, and the result of these energy increases is a faster vehicle, capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds. Top speed it pegged at 300km/h.
Two variants of the Italian sportscar are offered. The MC Shift uses a robotised six-speed manual gearbox and the MC Auto Shift makes do with a traditional six-speed automatic gearbox supplied by ZF.
The Australian importer of Maserati vehicle in Australia, Ateco Automotive, has not set a price on the new car ahead of its local launch, intimating to motoring.com.au that due to fluctuations in the Euro, pricing is often delayed until a just a few weeks before it goes on sale.
However the Maserati Granturismo Sport has similarities mechanically (and visually) with the limited edition Granturismo MC Stradale, which has sold out in Australia and may be priced in the same region at around $360,000.
The car is due in Australia at the end of 2012.
Along with the top-shelf Granturismo, Maserati showed a few other exotic cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, including Maserati GranCabrio Sport, and the "world beating" FIA Sportscar World Championship winning Maserati MC12.
