Maserati to celebrate 100 years in style

Premium Italian brand tipped to break record at centenary celebrations in the UK

Touted as the world's biggest classic motor racing festival, the Silverstone Classic that runs July 25 to 27 will feature a vast array of Italian race and sports cars as Maserati celebrates its centenary.

Alfieri Maserati established the marque in 1914 in Bologna, Italy, with victories in events like the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio cementing its reputation as a builder of top quality sports cars.

Maserati went on to win two F1 Driver's Championships, in 1954 and 1957, thanks in part to the freakishly talented Juan Manuel Fangio.

The Italian luxury brand will be the Silverstone Classic's 'Celebration Marque' which means there will be a special emphasis on the Trident brand, including what is expected to be a record number of classic Masers in attendance - past and present.

The event takes place during the northern summer, about a month after the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed, and is expected to draw significant crowds.

"Boasting such an amazing pedigree both on and off the racetrack, we are honoured that Maserati will be marking its centenary at this year’s Silverstone Classic," declared Event Director, Nick Wigley.

"As the biggest classic racing festival in the world, the event always attracts many of Maserati's finest competition cars such as the stunning 250F and Tipo 61 Birdcage."

As part of the celebratory 100th birthday activities, Maseratis will take over the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit at lunchtime on Sunday July 27, with motorsport and production models on parade.

"This year will be even more special, with what we are predicting will be the largest parade of stunning Maserati models ever assembled," stated Wigley.
