Mazda celebrates one-millionth MX-5
World’s best-selling roadster passes million mark after 27 years in productionMazda has announced it is celebrating the birth of its millionth MX-5 roadster.
Built at the roadster’s Ukina Plant No. 1 in Hiroshima, Japan, the one-millionth MX-5 has not been sold to an owner, instead, it will begin a world tour visiting motor shows and fan meets.
Its first public appearance will be May 3 at the Hiroshima Flower Festival where the small Mazda roadster will take part in the city’s parade. In June 26 the one millionth MX-5 will appear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.
First going on sale back in April 1989, it has taken Mazda 27 years and four generations of MX5s to achieve the manufacturing milestone that is likely to see the Japanese car-maker keep its Guinness World Record for the best-selling two-seater sports car - a record it has now held since 2000.
