Mazda is readying an updated version of the CX-7 for release in November, to include updated styling, new features, and two new engine options -- a second petrol motor and a new turbodiesel powerplant
In addition to the current 175kW/350Nm 2.3-litre turbo petrol engine, Mazda will enhance the CX-7 range with entry-level 2.5-litre petrol and 2.2-litre turbodiesel engines.
The 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine is lifted out of the Mazda6 and will be offered with a five-speed Activematic transmission that drives the front wheels -- a first for the CX-7.
This 2.5-litre engine generates 120kW at 6000rpm and 205Nm of torque at 2000rpm, while Mazda claims that fuel economy will be 9.4 litres per 100km.
The second and perhaps more important engine option will be the 2.2-litre oiler, which is coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission. Drive is transferred to the road via Mazda's active torque split all-wheel-drive system.
Peak power for the 2.2-litre diesel engine is 137kW at 3500rpm and 400Nm at 2000rpm, while Mazda claims the CX-7 diesel will use just 7.6L/100km.
Mazda has bestowed a new look front end on the CX-7 -- one incorporating enlarged air intakes, to match its siblings, the Mazda3 and Mazda6. The rear end features minor styling changes, as seen in the lower bumper.
Pricing and equipment specifics will be announced closer to the launch date in November, but the Carsales Network expects the new entry-level front-wheel drive 2.5-litre models to be priced significantly lower than the current $41,965. The updated range will include the following models:
- CX-7 5-sp Activematic Classic
- CX-7 6-sp Activematic Classic Sports
- CX-7 6-sp Activematic Luxury Sports
- CX-7 6-sp Manual Diesel Sports
